Welcome to my Website
Hi! I am a teacher and teacher trainer until recently based on the Mediterranean island of Malta, where I lived from 1993 until the end of 2020. I'm now based in Gosport (just outside Portsmouth) on the English south coast. I'm British (with a Maltese mum) and I also have Maltese citizenship. I also lived in Italy (Milan and Rome) for 12 years and I like to see myself as a European, Mediterraneanised Brit! These days I do most of my work with teachers of English as a Foreign Language (or English for Speakers of Other Languages). Some teachers are just starting out on learning to teach, others are experienced and want some new, fresh ideas and skills. Some teach primary school kids, others teenagers, and some are teachers of adult learners. Some work in mainstream education whilst others are employed by private language teaching organisations. And some do all of these things - but not usually at the same time! Whatever you do, whoever you are, you'll probably have an interest in learning and teaching English (and perhaps other languages too). I hope you find something that is interesting and useful for you. Maybe you're just looking for a teaching idea - you'll find these under Teaching Tips - and if you work in Malta, you'll also find materials specifically written with a Malta background as a change from your normal coursebooks. 2020 saw the publication by Pavilion of a book I co-authored with Antonia Clare: The Creative Teacher's Compendium: An A-Z guide of creative activities for the language classroom. It's full of ideas and materials you can use right away. Here's the link: www.pavpub.com/pavilion-elt/teaching-english/the-creative-teachers-compendium Or perhaps you're looking for one of the specific training or development courses I'm involved in - you'll find information about these under Courses. These could include TEFL courses (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) and other related courses. At the moment, because of the pandemic, I'm delivering these online with my parters at Online TEFL Teacher. More information can be found here: onlineteflteacher.com/ if you're interested in Cambridge ESOL CELTA and DELTA courses, I tutor on courses run by another language school in Malta, IELS. You can find more information here: www.ielsmalta.com/en/celta-in-malta-certificate-in-teaching-english-to-speakers-of-other-language-key-facts Or perhaps you're a teacher working in a school or teaching institution in an EU country and you're looking for an Erasmus+ course. As soon as the Covid pandemic is over these should be up and running - hopefully soon. If you're unaware of what Erasmus courses are, they're funded by the EU ( i.e. free for teachers, including flights and accommodation!) to help teachers upgrade their skills and knowledge. The ones I'm involved with offer a cross-cultural experience, usually in a Mediterranean country such as Italy, Malta and Cyprus. I partner up with Carob Institute www.carobinstitute.com/ for courses for teachers of learners from 7-16 years of age and with Easy SL, a language school in Valletta, Malta www.easysl.com/teacher-training for creative teaching courses for teachers of learners from 10 years of age to adults. I often give talks and hold workshops for teachers in Malta and other coutries and perhaps you'd like to download the powerpoint presentations on this site. You can also contact me, perhaps with a view to asking me to come to your school or institution in order to lead some workshops. Or perhaps you'd like private, one-to-one lessons to improve your English or to develop your teaching techniques and skills. If so, you can contact me directly on my email alanmarshinmalta@gmail.com I'm also on Facebook and have my own Facebook page Alan Marsh ELT Or maybe you just want to browse (and explore the links), or even to read my blog. This will often contain musings and comments about ideas and issues in language teaching which have made me think or which I'd like to share with you. Whoever you are, whatever you do .....Welcome! |
