Here is some information from Cambridge that may be helpful.

WHAT IS THE CAMBRIDGE ESOL DELTA?

Delta is one of the best-known and most popular advanced TEFL/TESOL qualifications in the world. It is a flexible way for experienced English language teachers to progress further in their careers. Delta can be taken at any stage in a teacher’s career and is ideal for those wanting to update their teaching knowledge and improve their practice.

WHY TAKE DELTA?

Find out why Delta is such a popular international English exam.

Elevate your career to the next level

Delta can help you
  • extend your knowledge and understanding of the principles and practice of English language teaching
  • critically examine your current beliefs and practices as a teacher
  • apply your new knowledge and understanding to your current teaching role
  • extend your knowledge of English language teaching in contexts other than adult learners
  • develop your career and apply for more senior roles.

Take Delta at any time during your career

Delta can be taken at any stage in a teacher’s career. It is suitable for people already teaching English in adult, primary or secondary teaching contexts, and is intended for aninternational audience of non-first language or first-language teachers of English.

Candidates taking Delta will normally have an initial English language teaching (ELT) qualification and will have had at least one year’s ELT experience (though most centres will insist on a minimum of two or three years’ experience after doing an initial ELT qualification), but these are not requirements. The Delta modules may also be taken by:
  • teachers who wish to refresh their teaching knowledge
  • teachers who wish to review and update their practice
teachers who wish to extend their expertise in a specialist area

Take a flexible course

The three modules of Delta are flexible:

  • take all three modules at one time, two together or just one
  • receive a certificate and credit for each module successfully completed
  • take modules in any order (although most centres will recommend that Module One is taken before Module 2, and Modules One and Two before Module 3,or in an integrated mode where all three Modules are prepared for during the same course)
  • take modules when you choose over any period of time (there is no time limit to complete all three modules).

Gain valuable skills for career progression

Delta helps teachers prepare for more senior teaching roles and facilitates progression to other qualifications, such as MAs in Linguistics and Language Teaching. Some MA programmes will accept Delta credits (up to 20 credits for each module).

Take pride in a certificate that is accepted globally

Because Delta is awarded by Cambridge English Language Assessment, part of the University of Cambridge, it is internationally recognised, highly respected and a benchmark for quality.
